THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Updated: Jan 18, 2022

Our weekly wellness collaboration with Alex Williams ANutr, an evidence-based holistic wellbeing resource, focuses on the importance of getting outside into nature.

The benefits of getting outside and into nature...

We have all experienced the feeling of serenity being in nature can bring. Being outdoors in the wilderness and fresh air, or relaxing on a beach feeling the sun on your skin can have a calming effect. For many it can give us the space and time to slow down and recuperate, but can it actually have an effect on our overall health and wellbeing?

There is a growing body of evidence that indicates that increasing the amount of time you spend in natural environments such as parks, woodlands, or beaches is associated with improved overall health and wellbeing. The beneficial effects have been linked with both improved physical and mental health, with the more time spent outdoors linked to greater improvements. It is suggested that the optimum time to spend outside in nature a week is 120 minutes, this can be all at once or split up, it makes no difference. With the weather warming up now is the perfect time to start increasing your daily dose of nature.
