OM YOGA AT BODNANT WELSH FOOD

Bodnant Welsh Food will be hosting a range of yoga and wellness classes that are listed below.

"I love yoga, it is my life! With creating a dream team or yoga, pilates and wellness teachers, I hope to create a yoga and wellness community at Bodnant; an active hub of like-minded people coming along to all sorts of classes and events.  We all need some me-time in this fast-paced world and I hope to create a real sanctuary at Bodnant Welsh Food for all of us who need a mix of movement, challenge, mindfulness, quiet, rest and community.” 

KATE HAMILTON-KAPUR

FOUNDER OF OM YOGA NORTH WALES

A 90 minute class which will take you on a delicious spicy and sweet journey, to challenge and stimulate physiologically, expand and release physically, calm and balance neurologically. 

We will drawer on traditions of Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow to ignite our inner fire, Hatha and Yin to deepen and let go, breath work and meditation to ease us back into balance.

Postures will be dynamic in parts, but variations will be available. 

Therefore I would recommend this class not suitable for complete beginners.

INTERMEDIATE YOGA

BEGINNERS YOGA

WITH SAMANTHA HARE

A 60 minute class to introduce and nurture your fledgling phase of yoga, covering aspects of basic postures and fundamental sequences, breathing exercises and full body relaxation, where you will be guided step by step through physical demonstration and verbal queuing. There will always be variations offered to suite all ranges of ability, so you really don’t need to be flexible at all!

Simplicity, ease of movement and repetition will be key elements of this class.

This class is recommended for those new to yoga and for those wanting a foundation practice.

CHAIR YOGA

WITH SAMANTHA HARE

A 60 minute chair based class for those who may struggle getting onto and up from a yoga mat. Ideal if you need a gentle, adapted approach which will still work at strengthening and smoothing muscles, improving flexibility and movement of joints, use breathing and relaxation techniques to help calm the mind, balancing postures (still can be done seated) to sharpen dexterity and focus concentration. 

 

This class will be adapted to each individuals needs. 

Suitable for complete beginners.

YIN YOGA

WITH JANE BARNES

Yin Yoga is based on deceptively simple passive seated postures, which we hold for longer periods of time, from 1 -10 mins, allowing our bodies time to surrender to the pose and gently open, encouraging a feeling of release and letting go whilst at the same time increasing flexibility.  Excellent balance for those with over worked joints and for people who need to learn to slow down and relax!

The class will end with a Yoga Nidra - yogic sleep. This is a deeply nourishing, healing practice (30 to 40 mins is said to be equivalent to 2-4 hours of sleep!)

 

It is recommended that you have practised yoga for a year before you attend a Yin Yoga Class.

VINYASA YOGA

WITH JANE BARNES

Vinyasa Flow – ‘Vinyasa’, is a dynamic practice, influenced by Ashtanga yoga. The name derives from the Sanskrit: 

Vi – in a special way, order 

nyasa, which means "to place - conscious placement’ 

This session is about consciously placing a series of movements, in time and order and consciously linking this movement with the breath. We transition smoothly between asanas. 

It is suitable for all levels, as modifications will be offered, building strength and flexibility.

QIGONG TASTER

WITH PHIL EAST

Qigong is a centuries-old Chinese system of coordinated body-posture movement, breathing and meditation used for the purpose of maintaining / improving health. This class provides a basic introduction to one of a variety of styles of Qigong.  Each class will start with a gentle warm up sequence followed by “tapping” around the body to stimulate acupressure points. 

On a 5 week rolling programme you will be able to sample: 

Wudang Mountain Qigong

Shibashi set 1

Baduanjin

Seated Qigong

Seasonal Qigong.

GENTLE YOGA & MEDITATION

WITH KATE HAMILTON-KAPUR

In this 90 minute class, we will start slowly, settling in, tuning in and warming up. We have an hour for our ASANA practice, this is the movement part of the class, where we ease out all the tension, tiredness and tightness in the body, by moving mindfully, in time with the breath. 

After an hour or so, we reach the peak point of our class; the ultimate goal of any yoga practice... and that is being able to sit quietly, without the mind racing. We do this with a chosen Mudra, a positive affirmation and we sit together, just for a few minutes. Then it's time to go under blanket for a long relaxation, a poem or a Yoga Nidra. 

HATHA FLOW CLASS

WITH HELEN JACKSON

During this rounded 90 min class you will be guided through a slow but strong flow, building strength and flexibility. This will be balanced with pauses to breathe, notice and observe. Alternatives will be offered and you will be supported to adapt the practice to suit your body rather than the other way round!  Each session will offer meditation and breath practice; always ending with stillness and guided relaxation, allowing you to leave feeling more calm and rested than when you arrived.

 

Suitable for most people of all abilities.

PILATES

WITH SASHA JONES

Pilates is a form of low impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. 

Initially Pilates was designed many years ago for rehabilitative purposes and was later adopted by dancers to focus on more core strength and coordination. 

Pilates is a very mindful class as it emphasises the mind-body connection. 

 

This class will be suitable for beginners to intermediate at any fitness level.

MEN'S STRETCH CLASS

WITH SASHA JONES

This Men's Stretching Class will be suitable for total beginners/ intermediate level. This class will combine stretching and mobility work to focus on releasing common areas of tension within the main muscle groups.

WITH NATALIE GRAY

VINYASA FLOW

An Introduction to Vinyasa, where the students are given the tools to learn and build the foundations of a Vinyasa flow. Based on the traditional Sun salutations and Vinyasa elements, linking breath and movement in the more dynamic parts of the class, with more grounding introspective Yin towards the end. 

Each flow will be broken down and easy to understand as new Asanas are introduced gradually this really is a moving mediation with time to explore your mind and body with an added element of playfulness. This is suitable to all levels and beginners are welcome. 

INTRODUCTION TO THE ART OF YIN

WITH KATE HAMILTON-KAPUR

A quiet practice that offers relief from a busy lifestyle. Through long held, deeply releasing postures, the muscles of the body relax allowing the work to begin on the deeper, less elastic tissues of the body.

Incorporating a regular Yin Yoga class helps to counterbalance the more 'Yang' practice that we mostly practice in the West.

This Introduction to Yin will be for 6 weeks, and will introduce you to the principles of Yin and the basic postures; most will be familiar if you know Hatha Yoga, but with a Yin emphasis. 

It is recommended that you have practised yoga for a year before you attend a Yin Yoga Class.

FITNESS & WELLBEING FOR WOMEN

WITH NATASHA WHITE

This unique mixed ability class offers women who want to feel fitter and stronger a chance to do just that. Beginners and fitness fans will enjoy this strength & conditioning class which doesn’t only address fat loss via metabolic boosting muscle growth and, building strong bones but works on those bigger conversations too such as brain fog, healthy posture, back and core care, pelvic health, balance and co-ordination. 

Regular attendance will increase knowledge about YOUR health and well-being. Each class finishes with a long, rejuvenating relaxation.

This class will run from 7th October. 

SUPER SENIORS

WITH NATASHA WHITE

This 60 minute class is your positive-mood dose because we know ‘movement is medicine’! Regular attendance will increase strength, flexibility, heart and bone health and posture. Make the most of everyday tasks such as gardening, driving, enjoying longer walks and staying steady on your feet. No previous fitness experience is necessary. This class can be done seated or standing.

Shooting for greater independence, the odd singalong and a good belly laugh here and there. Chat to an expert about those niggling aches and pains in confidence. Natasha has tons of tips and advice for you. Why not bring a friend and go lunch afterwards!

This class will run from 7th October.

MUMS & TODDLERS

WITH NATASHA WHITE

An engaging parent and child partner yoga fun-filled session! Song, plenty of movement with nursery rhymes. There will be simple sensory play and Story Massage. Stimulating your toddler's language and confidence with specific yoga poses for their changing mobility and co-ordination. No experience required. 

Smiles, noise and adventures expected! Each session finishes with some cosiness as we share a story, a visualisation, some sound play, mini mindfulness, massage or creating a special gift for your loved ones. 

This Class will start on 7th October.

FAMILY YOGA

WITH NATASHA WHITE

Aimed at children aged 4 - 12 with their grown-up family member/s. Original, captivating and fun, these sessions develop strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness whilst enabling families to spend quality time with each other. Using a yoga, tai chi, mindfulness, fitness mash-up everyone benefits from learning together.
